This year sees the return of Van Der Valk to our screens on ITV, this time with Mad Dogs actor Marc Warren taking on the eponymous role.
With the start date now officially set for Sunday 26 April, Van Der Valk will be broadcast over three feature-length episodes on ITV and ITV Hub.
Also starring Maimie McCoy as the Dutch detective’s gutsy and fiercely competent right-hand woman Lucienne Hassell, Van Der Valk is a remake of a crime drama series set in Amsterdam that originally aired on UK television between 1972 and 1992, starring actor Barry Foster.

The theme music to this 2020 Van Der Valk ITV advert trailer is a song titled ‘Nightcall’ that’s performed by the British electronica and indie-pop trio London Grammar.
Released as a single in 2013 and taken from the band’s debut album ‘If You Wait’, the song is actually a cover of the French music producer and DJ Kavinsky’s song of the same name that was released in 2010. Those of you with a particularly good memory may recall the London Grammar version was used a few years back in a trailer for BBC One’s crime drama The Driver.
When we first saw this Van Der Valk trailer during an ITV ad break we assumed the series would begin in a few week’s time, as ITV usually begins promoting their new shows well in advance of the premiere. So it was a surprise to see the start date being revealed as this Sunday.
