This new Samsung Galaxy Christmas advert stars ‘Chewie Dog’, a small canine who looks like the Star Wars Wookiee character Chewbacca, along with a cat from the Dark Side.
After a guy working at an animal rehoming centre posts a photo on social media with the hashtag #RescueChewieDog, a young boy repeatedly shares the picture with his father, trying to convince him to adopt Chewie.
Eventually, they head to the animal shelter only to find they’ve just missed out. However, the pair then notice a cat who resembles Darth Vader.
This new ‘Chewie Dog – Star Wars’ 2019 Samsung Galaxy Holiday commercial follows a very different theme to the brands ‘Be Together’ Christmas TV advert from last year. In quite a contrast to last year’s festive commercial, this 2019 ad swaps emotion and sentimentality for comedy and a The Rise of Skywalker movie promotion tie-in.
After the popularity of Samsung’s 2018 Christmas ad that in the UK featured a cover of the song ‘Always On My Mind’ and in America used a cover of ‘Somewhere Only We Know’, we had high hopes for the tech brands 2019 Holiday campaign from a music perspective. But hey, maybe next year.
The music featured in this Samsung Chewy Dog advert is taken from the Star Wars movie soundtrack, including the song ‘The Imperial March (Darth Vader’s Theme)’ that’s played at the end when we see the cat.
