IKEA Commercial – Old Furniture

This new IKEA TV commercial stars the ‘Stuff Monster’, a giant creature made of old unwanted furniture that walks through streets giving pieces of itself away.

This 60-second ad forms part of Ikea’s campaign that encourages people to let others have their old belongings for free when they no longer have use for them. The Swedish retailer says that instead of simply throwing out your old furniture, try passing it on to a new home, thus giving your old things a new life.

This ‘Stuff Monster’ Fall season IKEA commercial song is a tune called ‘Tea for the Tillerman’ that’s performed by British singer-songwriter and musician Cat Stevens. Including the lyrics “Oh Lord how they play and play for that happy day”, the song was released in 1970 as the title track of the artist’s fourth studio album.

If you feel like you’ve heard this piece of music used before in a TV ad spot before, you’re right as this featured a couple of years ago in an advert for Amazon Prime that starred a street musician performing alongside his dog, who’s dressed in a cute pirate costume. Those were the days.
