Dove Commercial – Reverse Selfie – Song & Video Details

Here’s a look at the powerful new ‘Self-Esteem Project- Reverse Selfie’ commercial from Dove which seeks to combat girl’s unrealistic and distorted views of what it is to be considered beautiful or even ‘normal’ on social media.

Quoting research from America that surveyed girls aged 10 to 17 who use social media, Dove says that by the time they reach the age of 13, 80% of girls have begun distorting how they appear online.

In the commercial we see the young actress doing the opposite of what millions of girls and women do each day, editing her selfie photo to remove make-up and change the size and shape of her facial features to accurately reflect her actual appearance, rather than what many wrongly believe to be more ‘likeable’.

The Dove advert concludes with the message ‘The pressure of social media is harming our girls’ self-esteem. More screen time during the pandemic has made things worse. Have the selfie talk today’.
