What’s the name of the new Channel 4 F1 title music and who’s it by?
After dropping the traditional Grand Prix theme tune of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’, 2019 saw Channel 4 switch to a new piece of instrumental music to play during the opening credits of their qualifying and race highlights coverage. The song is called ‘Genesis’ and was recorded by French electronic music duo Justice, who consist of members Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé.
You can stream or download the full-length version of this song from Amazon. This same track has also recently been used in a ‘King of Beers’ UK television advert for Budweiser.
There are rumors that both Sky Sports F1 and Channel 4 originally intended on using The Chain for their 2019 theme music, but after the pair got into a bidding war for the rights and the price went up, both ended up opting for an alternative soundtrack. We don’t, however, have official confirmation of this.
There appear to have been a number of concessions made by C4 in order for Sky to allow them the rights to show highlight coverage, including not being able to conduct their own press pen interviews and needing to mention that the race is available to watch live on Sky Sports F1, but you’d think from the point of view of Formula 1’s owners, they’d want to keep free-to-air UK coverage going in order maintain the sports popularity and British Grand Prix attendances high.
