Amazon Commercial – Everybody Needs Somebody

Everybody needs somebody to love is both the theme of, and the song performed in this new Amazon Holiday commercial, which again stars those Christmas present-filled singing and smiling boxes.

This 90-second version of the ad spot opens with a young girl singing and playing the piano at a Christmas party, joined by a singing Amazon box. From there these very vocal packages appear on a train, in a delivery lorry, in offices and family homes, on the bus, and even at the North Pole with a man who looks a lot like Santa.

The commercial features people doing lots of hugging, kissing and dancing, finally concluding with the delivery driver lady arriving home to her very welcoming kids and partner for Christmas.

This year’s Holiday Amazon commercial song that all the actors and boxes are singing is the tune ‘Everybody Needs Somebody to Love’ that was most famously sung by American blues and soul group, The Blues Brothers.

Featuring the lyrics “I need you, you, you” and “Someone to love, someone to kiss”, this song was however originally recorded in 1964 by the preacher and singer Solomon Burke. Since then there have been a number of cover versions recorded by such artists as The Rolling Stones, the Jerry Garcia Band and, of course, for the soundtrack to the 1980 musical comedy film The Blues Brothers, which starred actors John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.
